David R. Willingham comes to Leonard, Rickman, & Holloway, P.C., as the 2008 recipient of the Honorable Harold R. Banke Advocacy Award, given annually by the faculty at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School to the graduate who best evidences the potential to develop into an accomplished litigator.  While in law school, Mr. Willingham actively participated in mock trial, serving as captain and leading the team to a 2nd place finish in the 2007 American Association for Justice’s Regional Mock Trial Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana.  David also served as Notes Editor for the Inaugural Edition of the John Marshall Law Journal, and in that capacity assisted Professor Robert J. D’Agostino in authoring The Religious Rights of Incarcerated Persons, 1 John Marshall Law Journal 91 (2008).

In 2007, David clerked for the Honorable John J. Goger of Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta.  There, David assisted the Judge in updating and revising the West criminal law manuals that he authors.  Judge Goger incorporated portions of David’s writing into the 2007-2008 edition of Daniel’s Georgia Criminal Trial Practice.  (See, e.g., Ga. Criminal Trial Practice, § 4-12, discussion of Grant v. State, 220 Ga. App. 604, 469 S.E.2d 826 (1996)).

David practices in the firm’s litigation departments, both criminal defense and personal injury.  In his spare time, David enjoys watching sports, playing the guitar, and golf.
